Emily and Tim | Glen Manor Wedding

I love a good bridal party. When they know how to have fun, joke around, and just be good people then it makes for an awesome wedding for us. Emily and Tim picked some good people for their bridal party and it made for a really fun day and night.

The forecast called for rain and the girls were prepared. Umbrellas and tall green boots made their debut for some of the photos (even though the rain held off). Everything happened at the Glen, including the getting ready for the girls. The room had great light pouring in through big windows.

The Glen Manor is always a pleasure to shoot at. I love the dock out back and the stone texture of the building itself is really photogenic for a back drop. The temptation for a lot of people I think is to run straight to the gardens, but in my opinion there are a lot of better locations on the property that don’t immediately stick out to you.

The Bluecube was there as well to keep the party going late into the night. I like where it goes at the Glen – out on the back patio. It’s nice in the summer time because it’s outdoors but still covered by an overhang. Gives it a cool feel.

All the best to Emily and Tim in their new marriage. Thanks for choosing Blueflash!

Kristina and Nick | Regatta Place Wedding

Kristina and Nick’s Regatta Place wedding was as picturesque as they get. Perfect temperature, a sunset throwing colors all over everything, a light breeze blowing across the water, and a party that went deep into the night.

The guys arrived by boat to Regatta Place and the girls arrived the traditional way in land vehicles known as cars. It made for some cool video and photos (we got to do both for them). The ceremony and reception were both at Regatta Place. Later in the night there was gelato being served right outside the tent which was a nice bonus.

It was fun working with a lively bridal party (and couple) and I think it was an all around good time for everyone. Check out some of the highlight photos below and definitely their wedding video. Congrats to Nick and Kristina and thanks for having us!

Kayla and Michael | Bittersweet Farms Wedding

Kayla and Mike win the award for the couple that lives the furthest from Rhode Island. These guys came in all the way from Australia (as did some of their guests) to get married at Bittersweet Farm up in Massachusetts. If you’re wondering why the globe crossing trip for their wedding, it’s because Kayla was originally from the MA area but has since moved to Australia.

I think they also hold the record as having the funniest bridal party, specifically the groomsmen. It was a genuine pleasure to hang out and watch them throughout the night have a great time and tell funny stories. Mike and his two groomsmen were lifelong friends and it was really cool to watch.

Everything was at Bittersweet except for the getting ready which took place at the Biltmore. We did some photos of the two of them at the Biltmore before the ceremony but without seeing each other. I liked that and thought the photos were pretty cool.

We caught some really sweet light at a great location at Bittersweet for some of the bride and groom photos. Make sure to check’em out below along with their wedding film. Congrats to the both of them and we wish them all the best back in their home in Australia! Thanks for having us!

Nicole and Adam | Wedding Redux

After Nicole and Adam’s wedding was wrapped up I received an email from Nicole asking if we could head into Newport on another day and take more photos. I hadn’t even gotten their wedding photos back to them at that point! She said they had a great time taking pictures and wanted to be able to do some more in their dress and tux. She called it a ‘wedding redux’. I liked the name and I liked the idea so I was more than happy to set it up with them.

We met up in Newport early one morning and took our time shooting wherever we felt like it. There were some people who passed by and wished the congratulations thinking it was their wedding day which was pretty funny. It was really enjoyable to be able to take bride and groom formals without any time pressure from the wedding day. I think this needs to become a thing. Wedding Redux Sessions. Anybody?

It was a lot of fun and I’m glad she reached out to ask about it. Below are some photos we got from the session. Nicole and Adam, part 2!

Melissa and Ryan | The Villa Wedding

You might remember Melissa and Ryan from their engagement session by the water way back when. It was the session with some photos from their high school in the gym. It was a little warmer at their engagement session than on their wedding day a few weeks ago, but they were still just as excited and just as in love!

The wedding took place at The Villa in East Bridgewater, MA. It had been awhile since we photographed there and it was nicer than I even remember it to be (and I remembered it being a nice place). They had it decorated perfectly for wintertime and the place was filled up with loving relatives and friends.

One awesome thing Melissa and Ryan did at their Villa wedding was put little cards on each seat at the ceremony that asked the guests to just be present for their wedding rather than trying to take cell phone photos. There’s a picture of it below in the highlights. I love the concept of having everyone be 100% there for the ceremony instead of trying to take pictures. It also helps us be able to do our job better for our brides and grooms. We liked it so much that we made our own little cards and are going to let our future couples use them if they’d like at their own wedding.

Even though it was five million below zero outside we still got out there for a few minutes to get some photos with the snow. We also grabbed some bridal party photos right outside the venue. The rest of the night was a great celebration of the new marriage with some touching family tributes and speeches. It was awesome to be a part of their wedding and be able to photograph it and create their wedding film. Take a look at both below! Keep your eyes opened for a future trash the dress session with Melissa!

Nichole and Jon | Mystic Seaport Wedding

We love ourselves a little Mystic Seaport adventure. Dan, Emily, and I headed down to photograph and film Nichole and John’s wedding. The Seaport is such a cool place for a wedding and for photos and video. The village area is loaded with cool buildings and backdrops and there’s great textures everywhere.

The weather was looking a little threatening for most of the morning but the rain held out until after first look and bridal party photos which was pretty awesome. Right as we finished it started coming down. Hard. The outdoor ceremony had to be moved inside. Nichole decided she didn’t want to have the ceremony under the tent where the reception was set up so instead we found a nearby building to have it in that had a walkway about five feet wide. It was all dark wood and the only light was leaking in through small windows on the long wall. The other part of the building was a display area for the textile machinery. For that reason, the building was extremely long and narrow.

It was pretty cool, but it was also pretty dark. Nichole asked us if we could make it happen in there and we assured her it’d be fine. I hopped the wall and went into the display area to set up a couple speedlights and umbrellas on stands to balance the light that was coming in from the windows on the opposite side. It was probably the most interesting setup we’ve ever photographed at a wedding. I think it ended up coming out pretty cool.

The rest of the wedding was under a tent so everyone quickly forgot about the downpouring rain. It was actually kind of neat to be under the tent and dry while the sky dumped serious water all around us.

Check out the wedding film and some of the photo highlights below. Congrats to Nichole and Jon and thanks for having us!

Erin and Matt | Jamestown Wedding

Erin and Matt had an intimate wedding on private property in Jamestown, Rhode Island. Emily had the pleasure of photographing it for them. The location couldn’t have been any better, with sweeping views of the ocean adjacent to rock cliffs. McGrath Clambakes¬†provided the awesome food for the outdoor open-air dinner party.

The ceremony took place at Fort Wetherill (also outdoors). Take a look at the photos and check it out! Congrats to Erin and Matt. Thanks for having us at your wedding!

Nicole and Adam | Oceancliff Wedding

Once in awhile we get to shoot an early day wedding rather than the more traditional and typical evening wedding. Nicole and Adam’s was one of those. We were at Oceancliff bright and early (7AM) to capture Nicole and her girls getting ready in one of the suites upstairs.

Once they were all good to go we found Adam and set up the first look out in the back of the property. Once the nerves were gone and that was over the rest of the day was very calm. Guests mingled out back for a brunch-themed cocktail hour in the late morning while the sun was rising higher in the sky. Everyone headed in for the reception once cocktail hour was over and the first dances, cake cutting, and party got fully underway.

Thanks to Nicole and Adam for letting us photograph their wedding. There will be more from this couple in a few future blog posts, so stay tuned! Some highlights below:

Bethany and Austin | Towers Wedding

Bethany and Austin’s wedding brought us on a few adventures. After the getting ready part of the day we all walked a long winding path to get out to a crazy view of the ocean while standing on big boulders near the shore. That was the backdrop for their first look, which worked out pretty good in my opinion.

We were able to jump right into bride and groom creatives along with the bridal party after that before heading off to the ceremony at the South County Museum. Ridiculously cool location number two. It was an old stone building that had a bunch of ivy growing all over the walls with no roof on top. It was a hot summer day so the Del’s cart right outside the ceremony was a welcome sight. After downing three or four of those we were ready to do the family photos.

We (me, Dan, and Emily) piled in the car and headed off to the third location in Narragansett for their Towers wedding reception. The Towers always looks good, so there’s not much more to say about that. How can you not like a room that stretches across the road beneath and always has white string lights hanging along the ceiling? The party went strong and eventually it was time for us to take off. We were so hot when we left that we decided to throw our gear in the car and jump in the ocean for a late night swim. By ‘we’ I mean me and Emily. Dan stood on shore claiming that he didn’t want to drive home with wet clothes. His loss.

It was a great end to a really great wedding. We’re really glad they chose us to be a part of their wedding and that we were able to photograph it as well as create their wedding film. Both are below for you to check out. All the best to Beth and Austin!
