Vanessa and Britt | New York City Engagement

Sometimes you’ve just got to go to New York City. Once in awhile it’s good to get that larger than life feeling injected into you. Sometimes it’s good to get a $150 parking ticket because you pumped the meter but realized afterwards that it didn’t matter because you were parked in a commercial zone. Well, maybe not that last one.

Emily, Dan, and myself headed out to the city for a little road trip fun. We left early in the morning because Emily had to make sure she got a chance to check out the Disney store. Dan and I had B&H Photo on our extremely short list of places to go. Basically there and a place that sells pizza. It doesn’t take much to make us all happy.

It was during our pre-shoot field trip that the ticket found it’s way onto my windshield. That’s all I’ll say about that.

Vanessa and Britt were awesome for their New York City engagement session. We stashed our car in a parking garage and then we Uber’d our way around with them (is that a verb?). We hit central park and Grand Central Station as our two main locations. It was really refreshing to shoot in a totally different place. Rhode Island is great, but it’s also small and after awhile you get pretty familiar with most of the places.

You can check out some highlights below from the shoot. Once it was over they were nice enough to take the three of us out to eat at one of their favorite spots in the city. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – we have the awesomest clients on the planet. Before we headed home they even invited us up to their super cool city apartment, gave us some snacks for the road, and let us check out the view from high up in the building.

Keep your eyes open for Vanessa and Britt’s wedding coming up soon!

Alyssa and Jay | Fenway Park Engagement

Every once in awhile you get a really awesome opportunity to shoot in a unique place. This engagement session with Alyssa and Jay was one of them. They wanted a Fenway Park engagement shoot, and we were more than happy to oblige.

They rented the place out for an hour. All was fair game – except actually stepping foot on the field. THAT would have been ridiculous. Even with that restriction it was still an experience and feeling I probably won’t forget. To see all the completely empty seats, the desolate field, and be able to hear quiet noises like birds chirping was so strange. The only other times I’ve been in Fenway it’s been loaded with people everywhere, all sorts of noise, and the smells of concession stand food.

We made the most of our 60 minutes in the park and ran all over the place like maniacs, making sure to get shots with the Green Monster and any other Fenway icon you can think of. It was definitely cool. After our time was up we walked around the outside of the park a little bit and took some street shots. I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story. Alyssa and Jay will be getting married in a few months (June) and we’re really looking forward to being a part of their wedding day!

Sandra and Matt | Wickford Engagement

Sandra and Matt’s engagement session was on a super hot day this past summer. It’s hard to even imagine that kind of weather as I type this with close to three feet of snow outside my window. Anyways, we met up with them down by the water in Wickford and started there. After that we took a walk down the street and into the town and shot along the way.

After awhile we were all pretty much on the verge of melting and had to call it quits, but before that we found some cool little alley areas in the shade that made for some cool photos. Keep an eye out for these two, we’ll be photographing their wedding in the middle of this upcoming June. Check out some of the highlights from their session below:

RI Monthly Best Of 2014

Better late than never, right? In our effort to catch up on the blog, some of these things are just a bit dated. This is one that kind of shows its age.

RI Monthly ran their annual Best Of event at the Providence Performing Arts Center when the weather was a bit warmer than it is right now. The event was huge and it was sold out. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Performing Arts Center more busy.

Dan, Emily, and I covered the event for both photo and video. You can see the recap video below as well as a promo piece we did with RI Monthly and Svedka Vodka. Stars of the film were Will and Michaela from the Rhode Show and Heather Gersten from Lite105. They played that video to the audience as a way to introduce the contestants for the mixed drink contest.

The night started off with some general mingling around with food trucks, the Cranston West marching band, and Paws (the Pawsox mascot). From there people moved into the auditorium and up on stage to sample the drinks that were entered into the contest. Everyone was seated after that and our video was shown. Awards were then given out and the winner of the contest announced.

Once that was over it was a party, with a bunch of vendors out in the lobby area with food and drinks (Dave’s Coffee killed it with their drinkable frozen coffee milk concoction). People also flooded through an area we had set up so they could take a photo with their award. That was insane.

There were a bunch of local VIPs in attendance. Mayors, governors, etc… It was a big ordeal and pretty cool to be a part of. Looking forward to this year’s event again.

Samantha and Tim | Barrington Engagement

Samantha and Tim were looking to do their engagement session down in Barrington which is a meaningful spot to them because of growing up there. Blue skies and white clouds greeted me and Emily when we showed up. We photographed around the water and on some docks and then felt like we used those spots for all they were worth.

There weren’t a lot of other spots in the area since the surrounding streets at the lake were all residential. In true Blueflash fashion we decided to walk the streets and find yards that had good things to shoot. A little bit of trespassing later and we had ourselves a well rounded engagement session. Nobody came out and kicked us off their lawn so we counted that as a plus.

We’re looking forward to these two fine people’s wedding in July. Can’t wait to watch them get married and document their day for them! See you guys soon!

Katie and Rich | Providence Engagement

Here’s a summertime engagement session to warm you up on this cold January morning. Katie and Rich met us over at Brown to start off their Providence engagement session.

I realize all these blog posts sound similar because we keep saying the same thing, but it really is true whenever we say it: Katie and Rich were super nice people and it was like walking around the city with friends during the session. It’s not our fault our clients are awesome.

Check out how bringing an outfit change to an engagement session can really add some diversity to your images. It’s the best way to double your variety. We highly recommend doing that at your own session.

Their wedding is coming up quick this July and we’re definitely looking forward to shooting it and bringing the Bluecube along for some extra fun. Keep your eyes open for their wedding once the summer gets underway! Highlights below…
