Rhode Island Monthly Top Docs 2016

Today, we’re going to take a step back from looking at our beloved weddings to take a glimpse at our Rhode Island Monthly Top Docs of 2016! Matt and Cal attended this event for photography and cinematography!

As you know, we partner with Rhode Island Monthly to capture their awesome monthly events! Audi Warwick hosted the event, so before we celebrated the physicians we were able to check out some truly beautiful cars! Blackstone Caterers provided some delectable food and desserts to enjoy as the top doctors in Rhode Island were honored. After the food was cleared out and speeches were made, everyone kicked back to socialize and enjoy the rest of the night!

We’re so grateful for all of the brilliantly skilled physicians that our lovely state is blessed with! Make sure you thank your local medical heroes, and check out the highlights from this event down below! If you want even more, you can check out the event highlights from Rhode Island Monthly here: Top Docs Reception.

Rhode Island Monthly Top Rhode Islanders 2015

Here’s a fun throwback: Rhode Island Monthly Top Rhode Islanders 2015! It may be a new year, but its never too late to look back and reminisce about some of the awesome events we we have been able to be apart of. Matt took care of photography and Cal did cinematography.

This event was held to celebrate specific members of our community: people who have strived to make our community great by generous and various contributions. Together, they have achieved incredible things such as helping to save a high school music program, creating a tool that can fight the next outbreak of the Ebola, as well as seizing the NCAA Championship! Each of the individuals celebrated at this event has shown through hard work, determination, and sheer natural talent, we can each help to make our neighborhoods a better place. It takes a lot of heart to stand up and be an example for others when it seems impossible, but luckily that’s exactly what they have done.

The event was held at the lovely Warwick Country Club. It was awesome to honor these people who we may not have met prior to this celebration but who have had an incredible impact on our community. Thanks RI Monthly for letting us participate in such a special night, and for dedicating this night to these inspiring individuals!

Rhode Island Monthly Tech 10 Awards

Weddings aren’t the only events you’ll catch us crashing! Let’s look at the moments captured by Matt and Dan at the Rhode Island Monthly Tech 10 Awards.

The Tech 10 Awards were held in the beautiful Rising Sun Mills, home to Tech Collective RI. Tech Collective is Rhode Island’s Information Technology and Bioscience Industry Association. They foster the  growth, innovation, and economic momentum of Rhode Island’s high-tech industries and workforce. Collaborating with local and national government, industry and academic partners, Tech Collective programs directly impact Rhode Island. It was awesome to hear about everything these hard-working people do and celebrate with them in their accomplishments.

Thanks for inviting the Blueflash team along for the night! Check out the highlights below!

Salvatore Mancini | Celebration of Age

We ended up at this event in such a strange way. I had an idea kicking around in my head for about a half of a year where I wanted to partner up with a senior home of some type and bring our studio gear to their place and do portraits of all the residents. I wanted to do it as personal work – just a project that I thought would be good for the community.

I had contacted a few places but strangely enough couldn’t find any takers. I was surprised, since I wasn’t asking for anything in return. I got discouraged and pretty much gave up on the idea. After some time passed my buddy Steph (of Stephanie Mills Photography) shot me a message asking if I wanted to do some portraits for the Salvatore Mancini Center’s Celebration of Age event. She wasn’t able to do it due to other obligations and once I found out what it was I was totally game for it.

It’s an event that they have every year to honor anybody in the community over the age of ninety. They come and bring a family member and they serve them lunch, have some entertainment, and play some games. They also get a portrait of themselves on the way in (which is where I come in). I was pumped. I enlisted the help of my good friend Breanna to assist for the shoot and we lugged the studio gear to the center. We set up shop in the lobby and next thing we knew the seniors were coming through the door and sitting for their photo.

It was fun. It was interesting. It was humbling. These people have lived so many years and experienced so much in their lifetime. They’ve gone through so much, many of them experiencing extremely hard times and also some of life’s most exciting highs. A lot of them were great to interact with, many of them still sharp as when they were twenty.

We used a grey seamless backdrop, a white reflector camera left, a gridded speedlight on the background pointing up, and the key light was a socked 22″ white beauty dish with an Einstein making the light for us. I’m really happy with the look of the shots. If we had some more room they would have come out a touch better. We weren’t able to separate the subjects from the background as much as I would have liked. Consequently the key light was spilling onto the backdrop a bit.

Technical imperfections aside, I’m happy with and proud of this collection of photos. I hope they mean a lot to the families that received them (we provided a complimentary 5×7 to each attendee) for a lot of years to come. Check out the images. Every face tells a story. Thanks for letting us be a part of your event, and hopefully we can do it again next year!

RI Monthly | Top Designers 2014

As part of our continuing stint as the official RI Monthly photographer and cinematographer, we documented the 2014 Top Designers event held at the RI Design Center (part of Cardi’s). It was a fitting place to host it.

We were able to shoot some candids as well as the group photos in front of the step and repeat background and also create a highlight video to recap the event. You can see both below:

Lucas | Author Headshots

We love working with our brides and grooms for other projects after their wedding day. Lucas is a Blueflash groom and is an author. He was getting ready to release his second book and wanted to get himself a clean author photo for the back cover. I was happy to help him out. I headed over to their place in Providence for the author headshot session.

We tried to get a variety of poses and looks so he had some different things to choose from. There are a few below for you to check out so you can see what the shoot looked like. We’re hoping Lucas has much success with his second book publishing!
