Kristin and Jeremy | Narragansett Beach Engagement Session

Hey Blueflash Family! Today we have a little engagement session inspiration coming at you. Kristin and Jeremy chose a classic, perfect Rhode Island location: Narragansett Beach. You’re going to love this! The timing of this post is perfect: Kristin and Jeremy tied the knot this past Saturday! Today we’re honoring their union by sharing a few photos from their Narragansett Beach engagement session.

Matt photographed this sweet couple. We decided that sunset would be the perfect time to really capture the beauty of this picturesque area. They spent some time enjoying each other’s company in the area surrounding the historic Narragansett Towers. The weather couldn’t have been more beautiful. I love how they were able to make each other laugh. That kind of joy and connection in a couple always makes for stunning photos. Kristin and Jeremy ended the session by dipping their toes in the water!

We can’t wait for you to see their wedding photos. Congrats to this awesome couple. Check out highlights of their engagement session below!

Angie and David | Providence G Wedding

Happy Friday, friends! Today, we’ve got a wedding that has it all! A dreamy, foliage-filled ceremony, a glamorous, modern reception, and, of course, a stunning bride. Join us as we take a peek at Angie and David’s Providence G Wedding! Nate provided cinematography and Abby was the reception uplighting specialist.

Bridal Prep and The Ceremony

Our gorgeous bride spent a fun morning at home getting ready with her nearest and dearest. Dania from Positive Beauty Salon styled the bride’s hair, and Nakala took care of the makeup. After glamming up, Angie slipped into her amazing Maggie Sottero gown from Kleinfeld Bridal. With a glowing bride and a few stunning bridesmaids in tow, everyone was ready for the big moment… The ceremony! The Botanical Gardens at Roger Williams Park was the perfect setting for it. David waited patiently at the altar while Angie seemed to float down the aisle. Angie’s brother officiated the ceremony. How sweet is that? The newly weds stopped for a few pictures at the RI Statehouse before heading over to the Providence G to celebrate.

The Reception

Before the party in the ballroom, the guest enjoyed cocktails on the rooftop at the Providence G. The weather was perfect for enjoying the view of downtown. After cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, everyone headed down to the ballroom. The room was decked out in the most gorgeous florals from our friends at Golden Gate Studios. After a first dance, the couple sat down to an amazing meal from the incomparable Russell Morin Fine Catering. Following the meal was cake from LaSalle Bakery… both gorgeous and delicious! After dinner, the happy couple danced the night away!

Thanks for choosing us to be a part of your wedding story, Angie and David. It’s a real honor. You can check out photos from this lovely day from Sabrina Scolari. Angie also shared some of her wedding planning experiences and advices on the blog over at Rhode Island Monthly! Check out one of her posts here: Aisle Say: Angie.

Be sure to check out their wedding film below!

Venue Spotlight | Aldrich Mansion

The Venue Spotlight Series

Over the past few years we’ve photographed a lot of wedding venues. Like, a lot of venues. We thought that we’d bring something a little different to the blog to highlight some of these wonderful spaces. In the coming months, we’ll feature some helpful information and beautiful photos and videos of wedding venues around Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut that you are going to absolutely love. So, without further ado, here’s the next edition of our venue spotlight series: Aldrich Mansion!

Aldrich Mansion

Aldrich Mansion is a stunning French chateau overlooking Narragansett Bay. The entire mansion is a work of art.  Everywhere you look there is pristinely preserved polished stone and murals on the ceiling. It’s luxurious and lovely. Located on Warwick Neck, the mansion is tucked away from the traffic of Newport or Providence. We’ve worked with Tony, the event coordinator at Aldrich Mansion for many years… and we love him! You couldn’t be in better hands than Tony and the rest of the staff. They are the best at what they do.

Some details about the space: there are multiple dining rooms that you can combine to seat up to 230 guests. There’s a gorgeous library that can host cocktail hour or serve as an awesome backdrop for photos.  The most gorgeous landscaping you can imagine surrounds a huge multi-level patio overlooking the water. We’ve seen that patio used for cocktail hour or for formal dances and speeches. Here’s another fabulous amenity: on on-site chapel is available for Catholic ceremonies. Because there’s so many flexible spaces on the property, you can really customize it to your own needs, making this the perfect Rhode Island wedding location.

If you’re getting married, Aldrich Mansion should definitely be on your list of venues to check out. Below is an aerial video of the outside of of the property along with some photo highlights from a few weddings that we’ve shot there. Be sure to check it all out!

Douglas and Diana | Providence Proposal

Douglas hooked up with us through Baxter’s Jewelry where he got the engagement ring for Diana. We’re partnered up with them so we can help document their client’s proposals which has been a lot of fun. He and I spoke on the phone and came up with a game plan to help surprise Diana for the big question.

Emily and I showed up to Prospect Park and did our best to look casual and inconspicuous so as to not blow the proposal for Douglas. We started shooting pretty heavily when we saw him go down on one knee and then gave them a few moments to themselves.

Once the dust settled a little bit we approached them and took some more intentional portraits (after introducing ourselves to Diana). We then left them to enjoy the rest of their day. Fast forward a bit and they came in to our studio and we had a great time going through their pictures and reliving the moment again. We hit it off and we’re looking forward to being a part of their wedding day, so keep your eyes open for that in the future! Take a look at how it all wend down…

Aurora Styled Shoot | Blueflash

When we brought Britt on board with us to head up the planning and coordinating division we had talked about setting up a styled shoot to let her have some fun. She took the reins and set the whole thing up, pulling in vendors and securing a location and all the rest. That’s what planners do I guess!

We pulled in a current couple of ours, Amanda and Kyle, and set the scene at Aurora in downtown Providence. We had the run of the place because we did it before they’re opening hours.

Here’s our talented lineup that helped us pull everything together and make it what it was:

– Harper from Seams Couture provided the clothing and styling.

– Franchesca’s Floral Design provided all the awesome flowers for the day.

– Melissa from MAW Beauty took care of Amanda’s hair and makeup.

– Onastazia Designs created the invitation suite with her distinctive hand-lettering designs.

Easy Entertaining hooked us up with their signature donuts and splashed on lots of colorful frosting that made for cool pictures. These doubled as a great end-of-shoot snack (ok, and during).

– Candy was provided by Candies for Pennies out in Riverside.

We’ll let the photos and the behind-the-scenes video tell the rest of the story. We just wanted to publicly say thank you to all who were listed above that came out and provided their time, effort, and talent to make the shoot what it was. We’re looking forward to putting together another one in the future so keep your eyes open for that!

Ala and Don | Providence Engagement

Ala and Don’s Providence engagement session was a cold one. Ala had her heart set on a snowy shoot so we kept an eye on the weather and when we got a little bit we went for it. The session didn’t last too long because none of us could feel our fingers after a little while. We were able to get a bunch of different things in a short amount of time though.

I really liked the quality of the light. Winter light is so clean. The snow on the ground gave awesome fill light coming from underneath which makes people glow. Check out their pictures below and keep an eye out for their wedding this September!

Steph, Bryan, and Emmett | Family Photos

If you follow along on the blog you should most definitely know Steph by now. You probably know Bryan and Emmett as well. These are some good people and some good friends of ours. Steph is the talent behind Stephanie Mills Photography (http://www.spmillsphotography.com). Once or twice a year we do a quick family session photo exchange with each other.

This one happened to be on an insanely cold and windy December morning. This session lasted about five minutes. Sometimes that’s all you need. We met up at Meshanticut Lake in Cranston since we’re both Cranstonites and true to our Cranston nature we don’t like to drive very far for anything.

I had never shot at Meshanticut before and was pleasantly surprised. The light was pretty sweet since we did it (relatively) early in the morning. Emmett was a bit more cooperative than the kids on our half of the session, though I won’t mention any names (read: Ezra). All’s well that ends well though. We were glad to get a few pictures of our little family and I was happy to get Steph, Bryan, and Emmett some pictures of theirs. Check some out below.

Jess and Chad | East Greenwich Engagement

You may recognize Jess from, well, here. She’s one of our very own lead photographers. Her and her boyfriend Chad had recently gotten engaged. It was a total surprise for Jess. Chad is from Michigan, where Jess is from, so Chad flew into RI and crashed at our place for the night. The next day he went to Block Island and I sent Jess there separately for an engagement shoot with fake clients. When she showed up to meet the clients, there was Chad waiting for her at the bluffs with the ring.

Soon after that Chad headed back to Michigan to get back to his job and life there. When he came back to RI to visit we got together to do an engagement session of the two of them. We went to East Greenwich because Jess loves the area and we walked the streets and shot whatever looked good.

I have to admit – it’s intimidating to shoot another photographer. It was fun though and I was glad I had the chance to do it. The bittersweet part to this whole engagement thing is that Jess is leaving us in the fall to go back to Michigan, get married, and continue their life together there. I’m still working on convincing her to stay in RI but I’m pretty sure I’m losing that battle.

Check out some highlights from the session below…

Caroline and Paul | Harkness Memorial Engagement

Emily met up with Caroline and Paul at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, CT for their engagement session. We were there a few years back for a wedding and I remember how cool of a place it was from that.

Caroline and Paul are getting married this October and we’re looking forward to being a part of their wedding day. It’s going to be a party – we’re photographing, making their wedding film, and bringing along the Bluecube! Check out some highlights from their engagement session below…

Michelle and Andrew | Engagement Photography

Emily met up with Michelle and Andrew for their engagement session not too long ago and brought home these awesome images below. The setting was awesome and the light that evening couldn’t have been better. The shoot took place on the cliff walk in Newport.

The fall colors really come through in the second half of the session as the sun began to drop toward the horizon. Take a look at some of the highlights below. Michelle and Andrew just got married a few weeks ago in Pennsylvania so we’re wishing them all the best in their new marriage! Congrats guys!
