Venue Spotlight | Harbor Lights

The Venue Spotlight Series

Over the past few years we’ve photographed a lot of wedding venues. Like, a lot of venues. We thought that we’d bring something a little different to the blog to highlight some of these wonderful spaces. In the coming months, we’ll feature some helpful information and beautiful photos and videos of wedding venues around Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut that you are going to absolutely love. So, without further ado, here’s the next edition of our venue spotlight series: Harbor Lights!

Harbor Lights

Central location, pristine, manicured grounds, seaside ceremony arbor: Harbor Lights has got it all! To get all they offer, you might assume that your only choice is a Newport venue, but not so! This is definitely a venue to add to your visit list. The Grand Ballroom was recently renovated – it’s sleek, modern, and perfect. If you’d prefer to take advantage of the Bay view, they have some fantastic options for a tented event. One of our favorite parts about the property is the wide range of options for pictures. You can take your photos by the water, the marina, the trees, and there’s even a cute red barn to use a photo backdrop. There’s so much loveliness to choose from.

Want more than just a day of fun? They have options for an entire wedding weekend: golf, an infinity pool with a tiki bar, great dining options, they can even help arrange a harbor cruise. To help with all the options, Harbor Lights has an incredibly easy-to-work-with staff that will flawlessly execute your wedding. Trust us, you are in good hands at Harbor Lights.

Check out our aerial video of the grounds and some wedding highlights below! If you just can’t get enough, check out more weddings here: Lauren & Jonathan | Sophia & Justin | Samantha & Tim | Jessica & Andrew

Jenna and Kaz | Blithewold Wedding

You may remember Jenna and Kaz from their snowy engagement session in Smithfield a little while back. Well they’re back, but this time having their Blithewold wedding on a hot summer day.

We started in with them on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Emily split off with Kaz and the guys and I hung out with Jenna and the girls. From there we met up at Blithewold for an emotional first look. After that we went right into bride/groom and bridal party photos and then got ourselves set for the ceremony which was right on site at Blithewold.

The reception took place out in the back under the tent. The weather held clear until the end of the night when some small drops started to fall. We had an idea for a shot and stole Jenna and Kaz from the reception to go under the open sky for a couple minutes. I set up one bare speedlight on a stand behind them, popped a few shots, and got them back under the tent so they could stay dry. I think we grabbed one of my favorite wedding images. Check it out toward the bottom of the highlights. You can see the drops of water falling around them as the light blasts through them from behind. It’s pretty sweet.

Jenna and Kaz – We wish you guys all the best. You’re awesome and we loved being a part of your wedding day!

Alyssa and Jay | Fenway Park Engagement

Every once in awhile you get a really awesome opportunity to shoot in a unique place. This engagement session with Alyssa and Jay was one of them. They wanted a Fenway Park engagement shoot, and we were more than happy to oblige.

They rented the place out for an hour. All was fair game – except actually stepping foot on the field. THAT would have been ridiculous. Even with that restriction it was still an experience and feeling I probably won’t forget. To see all the completely empty seats, the desolate field, and be able to hear quiet noises like birds chirping was so strange. The only other times I’ve been in Fenway it’s been loaded with people everywhere, all sorts of noise, and the smells of concession stand food.

We made the most of our 60 minutes in the park and ran all over the place like maniacs, making sure to get shots with the Green Monster and any other Fenway icon you can think of. It was definitely cool. After our time was up we walked around the outside of the park a little bit and took some street shots. I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story. Alyssa and Jay will be getting married in a few months (June) and we’re really looking forward to being a part of their wedding day!

Massage Envy | Day With the Stars

We’ve worked with massage envy in the past a handful of times and it’s always great to get together with their crew. The company is full of good people that are passionate about helping others feel good so they can lead a productive and happy life. The most recent thing are we did with them was attend their “Day With the Stars” event out in Connecticut. They wanted to have it documented in both photo and video form. We were happy to oblige.

Their event was a sort of corporate field day that brought in employees from the region. Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut massage envy franchises were represented. They had team building games, a pool to swim in, basketball, softball, and even a dunk tank that let everybody have a try at sinking their boss. There was food all day in the pavilion and the turnout was great.

At the end of the day there was an awards ceremony where they recognize employees that did outstanding work and went above and beyond in that position. The whole day was really cool and it was awesome to see a company that treats their employees right and one in which everybody has great morale. Check out some photos from the day and also take a look at the video that really captures what went on.

Amanda and Adam | Biltmore Wedding

I grew up with Adam in my neighborhood playing street hockey, watching Ghostbusters, and doing every other outdoor activity you can think of. Our families were and still are friends to this day. When Amanda and Adam got engaged, I was really happy that they got in touch with me to talk about photographing their wedding.

I hadn’t met Amanda until they came in to talk about their wedding, but once I did I realized that she was the perfect person for Adam to spend the rest of his life with. If you spend anytime on the Rhode Island monthly engaged blog, Then you’re already familiar with her. She wrote about her whole entire wedding planning experience as one of the “Aisle Say” bloggers.

Their Biltmore wedding in Providence started with a ceremony at St. Mary’s church in Cranston. We made a stop at Brown University to take the formal photos of the family and bridal party. We were also tasked with creating their wedding film so be sure to check that out below as well.

Both Adam and Amanda have big, supportive, loving families that joined in to celebrate with them on their big day. A huge congratulations to them both on their new marriage and the start of their new life together. Thank you so much for letting us be a part of your day – we wish you all the best and hope you enjoy your photos and video for all the years to come.

Allison and Evan | Newport Engagement

I met up with Allison and Evan for their Newport engagement session over the summer. We decided to shoot for just session so we can catch the good light as the sun went down. Being in Newport, we have the choice of water, town, and anything else marine that you can think of.

Any session where you end up reminiscing about JNCO jeans is a good session in my book. I don’t even care if that dates me.

They brought a few props to use and we incorporated those in some of the pictures toward the beginning of the section before we went wondering around town. They’ll be getting married this year at Belle Mer in Newport and we’re really looking forward to being there as a part of their day.  Check out some highlights from their session below.

Meghan and Bill | Squantum Association Wedding

Full disclosure: Meg (and now Bill) are my cousin-in-laws. That, however, does not detract from the fact that they are some fine people. We had the honor and pleasure of documenting their wedding in both photo and video form for them. It was the Blueflash crew’s first time at the Squantum Association in Riverside, RI. I feel like it’s one of Rhode Island’s best kept secrets for a cool wedding venue. The place had so many awesome spots to shoot that we literally could have spent four hours shooting. Of course, we didn’t have that much time because weddings usually consist of more than just taking pictures.

Anyways, the wedding went all to plan, the weather was just right, and we had a really cool first look on a land bridge that led to a small island. Meg and Bill went on their honeymoon and then settled back in to their Boston home. Take a look at their wedding film and some highlights from their photos!

Savory Affair Styled Shoot

The Savory Affair is a Rhode Island based event planning and design company that handles corporate events as well as weddings. Sabrina and Alexandra from The Savory Affair had reached out to us to see if we wanted to photograph a styled shoot for them that they had in mind. We were game and told them we’d be on board. ‘Plan A’ fell through just a bit because there ended up being some issues with the venue we were originally going to shoot at. Sabrina and her team called an audible on the morning off and thoe whole thing went off without a hitch, last minute venue change and all. That’s the kind of professionalism you want at your wedding.

We ended up at Goddard Park so they could set up everything in a field. RI Rental, Michelle from Personal Touch Florist, and Mirage Design all contributed. Mirage created the fraternity themed planner seen in some photos. Michelle created all of the flower arrangements and RI Rental lent us the tables, chairs, and other rental items. Sabrina and Alexandra dreamed up the concept of a fraternity based reunion and the rest of us ran with it.

Michelle and the Savory Affair girls worked hard to set up different scenes with the floral arrangements and decor from RI Rental. I sat back and waited for them to do their magic and then arranged the models to take the shots. It was a fun experience and a huge bonus was that Bliss Celebrations picked up the shoot and ran it in their magazine. It’s always nice to get published after working hard on something! Thanks so much for having us be a part of your styled shoot, Savory Affair, and we look forward to working with you again in the future!

Check out some photos below and then all the way at the bottom are some behind the scenes shots for you. Enjoy!

Stacy and Brian | Quidnessett Wedding

Stacy was as down to earth as brides get. When we arrived she was totally calm and just hanging out with her friends and family. The getting ready was stress free and everyone was just relaxed and having a good time. When we met up with Brian a little later in the day we found the same thing going on with him and his crew.

They had an outdoor ceremony on the grounds followed by an outdoor photo session and then an indoor reception. Everything went off without a hitch.

Their whole Quidnessett wedding had the relaxed and chilled out vibe going on. Check out some highlights from their day below and congrats to Stacy and Brian!

Tracy | Goddard Park Family

You might be wondering why this is the second family session to hit the blog this week. What’s going on? Is Blueflash moving into the family portrait world? Not so much… We just happened to hook up with a couple good families that needed some pictures so we made it happen. This was another one where everyone got together from all over. Lots of kids and grandkids.

We met up at Goddard Park and shot the different combos and configurations of family members. After awhile the kids were a little restless (understandably so) and we headed over to the beach area and let them run around for little bit. I grabbed some candids while they were playing and then we got everyone together for a few more formal shots in a different area.

I think the shoot went pretty well. Some highlights are below to check out.
