I met Alissa and Brian at Sakonnet Vineyards in Little Compton. It was their idea to shoot their engagement photos at a winery. I have to hand it to them, it was a really cool idea.
When I woke up on the day of the shoot, big and fat snowflakes were falling from the sky. I was so pumped, I thought we were going to have the rare snowy engagement shoot. Unfortunately, on my drive to the vineyards, the snow turned to rain. What was originally really awesome weather for a cool shoot quickly turned into a nasty wet mess.
On the bright side, the rain let up by the time I arrived. That at least let us shoot outside without getting soaked. Well, the ground was pretty wet so I ended up leaving with shoes and socks that looked like they were submerged, but it could’ve been much worse.
Grey dreary skies are always a challenge, especially when you’re shooting something like an engagement which is supposed to be a pretty happy looking thing. You can either fight it or go with it. I chose to go with it on a lot of the shots, stopping down on the sky and getting it to look really dramatic. We came away with some pretty cool silhouette shots, too.
Alissa and Brian brought some pumpkins they had carved with their wedding date on it for props. They also brought some wine glasses that were important to them and used them for a few photos.
We roamed around outdoors and used some different parts of the property. When we were cold and wet enough, we headed back inside and found our way to the barrel storage room. We shot in there as well as the lobby of the winery. I think we made use of every area on the property. It was a really great place to photograph.
Thanks for having me do your engagement photos. Hope you guys enjoy them!
