Ever have those times when you just have to power through something? The weekend of Matt and Althea’s engagement shoot was one of those for me. I was definitely looking forward to the session for this couple, it’s just that my body wasn’t having it. I had felt something coming on at the beginning of the week and by Thursday morning (the morning of the session) I was really feeling it. I headed down to Newport with our mapped out locations and we got together and had a great time getting photos from a bunch of different places in Newport. The sun was out in full strength without a cloud in the sky.
Matt and Althea live out in New York. Althea grew up in Newport which is why the engagement session and the wedding were in Rhode Island. The engagement session was Thursday and the wedding was Saturday at Oceancliff. That’s usually a little closer than we like to cut it with scheduling, but there were extenuating circumstances with their out of town status and all of that. We were originally shooting to have the engagement session in New York, which would have been awesome, but we couldn’t get the schedules to work out.
So back to Thursday. We had the shoot and then I couldn’t take it anymore; I took my stubborn self to the doctor and found out I was running a 102 degree fever. He said it was probably the flu. I was told to get lots of rest and to take it easy. In my head all i could think of was that I had a wedding in two days and a bridal show in three. Does that count as getting a lot of rest? Probably not. We also had a little gender reveal party on Saturday morning before the wedding to let everyone know what our new baby is (it’s a boy, if you were curious). I was not messing around.
Long story short is that I was able to recover enough between Thursday and Saturday to be able to photograph the wedding and then hang out at the bridal show on Sunday, albeit with an extremely nasally voice.
More on Matt and Althea’s wedding pretty soon. The photos are done and in the pipe to make it to the blog soon.
Enough about me – We took photos on Second Beach in Newport, Flo’s Clamshack, Bowen’s Wharf, and on some of the town streets of Newport. It started out pretty cold with the wind whipping around us on the beach. I felt a little guilty having a sweatshirt and hood on while Althea braved it with a sleeveless dress. Just a little.
I’m really happy with the mix of photos that we got. These guys were easygoing and really natural on camera and made me look forward even more to photographing their wedding a couple days later.
