It seems we’ve been spending a lot of time in Boston lately. The more I see it, the more I realize how much character it has. There are so many great spots to photograph, interesting architecture, tons of variety in a small area, and traffic. OK, that last one is definitely not a plus. I’m used to Providence, where even if there’s traffic the city is only 20 square miles as compared to Boston’s 48.
It seems like horn honking is the incessant aural backdrop of a big city, something I’m not totally used to so my brain hasn’t learned to tune it out like I’m sure the locals are able to. I think at one point I attempted to count the seconds between honks but could never really get past three.
Anyways, I digress. As a disclaimer, I feel it’s necessary to tell you that Meg is Tara’s cousin, so technically Meg and I are cousin-in-laws. As we discussed during the shoot, Bill and I are slated to be second-cousin-in-laws once they wed. As any good Italian does, I promptly just dumped them into the general “cousin” category to simplify.
I met Meg at her apartment and she showed me the Boston ropes by taking us on the bus, then the subway, and popped us out on Tremont to meet Bill. We walked from there toward the harbor and shot along the way. The Boston harbor is cool! That might’ve been my first time in that specific area. We hung around the water, boats, and people while the sun dropped behind the skyline.
Once we completely lost daylight we called it quits. Meg and Bill were kind enough to invite me out to dinner with them so we walked toward a Mexican place to get something to eat. While walking I spotted some scenes that I couldn’t pass up. There is a lot of artificial light in cities that makes for really awesome photographs. We grabbed a few night shots and then finally called it quits for real.
We spent the rest of the night having dinner; catching up; and discussing life, dreams, futures, and philosophising about how life is too short to do something you don’t love for your forty-five working years.
It was great. I love what I do. Looking forward to shooting their wedding next year!
