Connie and Ryan
“I have sneakers on under this.” Best words I’ve ever heard at a wedding. I enjoy a good hike, climbing things, getting a little messy outside, but at weddings, I have to maintain a level of sensitivity for the white dress. So when Connie lifted up her lace to show off those sneakers, I felt like I had won a destination wedding in Iceland. We were going to climb the rocks.
Their super fun wedding was at OceanCliff, but after the first look the three of us took a ride down the road to the lighthouse at Castle Hill. With the dress lifted up to her knees, we walked through the woods where their adventurous spirit was further revealed to me. They told me how they met at Ikea (yes, my mind flashed to that scene in 500 Days of Summer), where they both felt this new person they were meeting would become an important one. I enjoyed watching them hike toward the ocean in a tux and a wedding dress, knowing their feeling had been correct.
The water was beaming, and the air was kind of wild, tossing our hair and glossing our skin in saltiness. We climbed the rocks like they were eloping and also like we were just kids exploring. Connie and Ryan will always remember the twenty-third of August because they established their journey together that day. However, I will also remember that twenty-third, because I got to take my shoes off on the cliffs of Newport to photograph the freest spirits. Still super grateful to them both for choosing to be fully themselves on their wedding day.
