This past Saturday was the Newport Bridal Show in Newport, Rhode Island. This was our first time participating in the show and only our second bridal show ever (the first being the Southern New England Bridal Show last month for which you can read a recap here).
The show was split between Rosecliff and Oceancliff, with a trolley bringing people back and forth. Blueflash was at the Rosecliff location.
Jaclyn and I attended the show and found ourselves right near the entrance, which was good because everyone definitely had a chance to see us as they came in but also bad because I don’t think a lot of people wanted to walk through the door and immediately stop. Since the show was on the smaller side, we still had the opportunity to talk to the majority of people that came through.
Our setup was pared down considerably from the Southern New England Bridal Show where we built 8×8 chalkboard walls and enclosed ourselves in to our little private photography utopia. This time I just built a simple A-frame structure and hung a few photos on it to catch eyes as they strolled by. On our table were our albums and photobooks, magazines we’re featured in, an iPad slideshow, a signup list for brides and grooms, and business card related paraphernalia. I also had a cool 6′ vinyl sign made up with the Blueflash logo and tagline on it for the front of the table.
We had a lot of good conversations, of course a lot of fun, and most of the time we were both busy at the booth except for when Jaclyn disappeared on a food sample hunt. I think she might have gotten on the trolley to Oceancliff to get some passed hor d’oeuvres, but she’s currently denying the accusation. We also awarded four one-hour massages at Massage Envy to some lucky door prize winners.
Good luck to all the brides and grooms planning their weddings that we met. Looking forward to the follow up meetings and having the opportunity to tell your wedding story for you. We also wanted to mention some other great businesses we had the pleasure of connecting with at the show. They are: Infinite Events, International Tennis Hall of Fame (our neighbors), Hotel Viking, Sarah E. Daly Event Planning, Blackstone Caterers, Dunn Wedding Designs, Russel Morin Fine Catering, Vanderbilt Grace Hotel, Plantation Catering, and Black Thumb Studio. Pleasure meeting you all.
We will be getting back to the How To Choose Your Rhode Island Wedding Photographer Series on the next post! We’ll be talking about post production and how this largely invisible process greatly affects what you receive.
