You may have heard the term “Same day slideshow” in your search for a wedding photographer, or maybe one of your friends saw it at a wedding and told you about it. Either way, let’s talk about it and see if it’s something you would want to have at your own wedding.
Different Forms
Same day slideshows come in all different flavors – there are different formats for the slideshow to be presented as well as different options for what to include. Lets’ start with formats.
Center of Attention or Centering Attention
On one end of the spectrum is the giant, drag a screen and projector out into the middle of the dance floor, arrange the seats for everybody to look at the screen, have the DJ announce what’s about to happen, and take up the next twenty minutes forcing you and your guests to watch photos fly by on the screen style. On the other end of the spectrum is something like an iPad or other tablet that just sits off in a corner and quietly displays photos for anyone to see who wants to drop by and take a look. We tend to lean toward the latter same day slideshow. We feel like it’s a less obtrusive, which is what we’re all about.
Baby Photos Galore
Let’s face it – not all of your guests want to see photos of you and your fiance from every year of your life leading up to the day of your wedding. The truth is that baby photos, while great and important for the people that you are closely knit to, are a bit dull for others to look at. What else can be included in a slideshow at your wedding, then?
How about photos from earlier that day? What’s newer, more relevant, and cooler than having your professional wedding photos on display just hours after they’re taken? The answer is “not much”, in case you were struggling. What else can you throw in the mix that would make sense? Your engagement photos. A mix of your engagement photos and some images from the earlier part of your wedding day is (in our opinion) the perfect thing to display during your reception. It makes more sense than the picture of you and Princess Jasmine at your fifth birthday party.
So we take some images from earlier in the day, mix them up with your engagement photos, and put them in looping slideshow that runs on an iPad near your guest book for the rest of the night. Simple. Classy. That’s how we roll.
The Same Day Slideshow Verdict
Have you thought of having a same day slideshow at your wedding? What form would you want it to take on? They can create excitement and buzz during your reception. With the right images, they can add an element to your wedding photography experience like nothing else.
And now for a completely random image of the state house in Providence, RI.
